GENERAL INFORMATION

Warning: Refer to the precautions in Section 6.3.1 before starting work. Removal:

PROCEDURE

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.

2. Remove the air filter cover (see Section 6.3.1.2).

3. Squeeze the retaining clips and disconnect the electrical connectors from the throttle position sensor, the auxiliary air valve, the air flow sensor and the injector wiring.

4. Also disconnect the electrical connector of the heating element installed between the throttle body and the intake manifold.

5. Relieve the fuel system pressure (see Section 6.3.1.7).

6. Then release the hose clamps and disconnect the fuel supply hose and the return line hose from the throttle body.

7. Disconnect the accelerator cable from the throttle cam on the throttle body, then unscrew the lock nut and adjusting nut and remove the cable sheath from the mounting bracket.

8. On models with an automatic transmission, also disconnect the kickdown cable.

9. Release the clamps, then disconnect the coolant hoses from the rear of the throttle body and plug the hose openings. Work quickly to minimize coolant loss.

10. Note or mark the routing of all vacuum and breather hoses so they can be reconnected correctly during installation. Release the clamps (where fitted) and disconnect the hoses from the throttle body.

11. Remove the bolts securing the throttle body to the intake manifold, then remove the throttle body from the vehicle.

12. Remove the heater element.

13. Plug the intake manifold opening with a clean rag to prevent dirt or foreign objects from entering.

14. If necessary, after removing the throttle body, remove the screws and separate the upper and lower sections.

15. Remove the gasket installed between the sections.

Installation

PROCEDURE

1. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure.

2. Observe the following points during installation.

3. If necessary, make sure the mating surfaces of the upper and lower throttle body sections are clean and dry. Install a new gasket, assemble the sections, and tighten the screws securely.

4. Before installation, make sure the mating surfaces of the throttle body, intake manifold, and heater element are clean and flat.

5. Install the throttle body and heater element on the intake manifold.

6. Tighten all bolts diagonally to the Stage 1 torque specification, then tighten them to the Stage 2 torque specification.

7. Make sure all hoses are installed correctly and, if necessary, secure them with clamps.

8. After installation, adjust the accelerator cable. Refer to Subsection 6.3.1.3.

9. On vehicles with an automatic transmission, adjust the kickdown cable. Refer to Subsection 9.2.4.
