Removal

PROCEDURE

1. On models with 1.6 liter engine, remove the air cleaner cover (refer to Subsection 6.3.2.2) for better access to the end of the cable connected to the throttle body.

2. Disconnect the cable from the cam on the throttle body.

3. Remove the cable sheath nuts from the bracket and remove the cable sheath from the bracket.

4. Release the cable along its entire routing.

5. Inside the vehicle, remove the lower panel on the driver's side.

6. Disconnect the cable from the pedal.

7. Remove the nuts securing the sheath to the engine compartment bulkhead and remove the cable by pulling it into the engine compartment.

Installation

PROCEDURE

1. Pass the cable through the engine compartment bulkhead.

2. Feed the cable into the engine compartment and route it into position.

3. Secure the cable housing to the engine compartment bulkhead with nuts.

4. Connect the cable to the pedal.

5. Install the lower panel.

6. Secure the cable housing along its entire routing.

7. Connect the cable to the cam on the throttle shaft.

8. Adjust the cable. On "Phase II" models with 2.0 liter engine, the throttle is controlled through an intermediate cam installed on top of the intake manifold. Then adjust the throttle cam setting.

Throttle Cam Adjustment

PROCEDURE

1. Loosen the locknut and unscrew the stop screw of the intermediate cam.

2. Holding the cam in the position where the throttle is fully open, turn the screw until it contacts the stop lever. Then release the cam and turn the screw three full turns clockwise. While holding the screw, tighten the locknut.

3. Move the cam to the position where the throttle is fully open, and check that the cam stop lever contacts the screw.
