System Type: Nissan Electronic Multi-Point Fuel Injection System. Application: – Models with 1.6 liter engine, engine code GA16DE – Models with 2.0 liter engine, engine codes SR20DE and SR20DE. Fuel System Specifications: Idle speed and air-fuel mixture specifications are given in the relevant section.
Fuel Pump Type: Electric, in-tank. Fuel Pump Pressure (approx.): – Models with 1.6 liter engine: 2.5 bar – Models with 2.0 liter engine: 3.0 bar. Fuel System Component Checks: – Models with 1.6 liter engine: Fuel pump resistance (tester connected to fuel level sensor): 0.7 Ω. Throttle position sensor resistance (see illustration Throttle Position Sensor Connector – Models with Manual Transaxle). Tester connected between terminals "A" and "B": – Throttle valve closed: 0.5 kΩ – Throttle valve partially open: 0.5 – 4 kΩ – Throttle valve fully open: 4 kΩ. Injector resistance: 10 Ω. Auxiliary air valve resistance: 10 Ω. Cold start idle-up solenoid valve: – With 12 V applied to the solenoid valve terminals, the solenoid valve should click, indicating correct operation. Power steering pressure switch: When turning the steering wheel, the switch closes the circuit. Steering wheel stationary, the switch opens the circuit. Coolant temperature sensor resistance: – At coolant temperature of 20 °C: 2.1 – 2.9 kΩ – At 90 °C: 0.24 – 0.26 kΩ – At 110 °C: 0.14 – 0.15 kΩ. Models with 2.0 liter engine: – Fuel pump resistance (tester connected to fuel level sensor): 0.7 Ω. Throttle position sensor resistance on models with manual transaxle (see illustration Throttle Position Sensor Connector – Models with Manual Transaxle). Tester connected between terminals "A" and "B": – Throttle valve closed: 2 kΩ – Throttle valve partially open: 2 – 11 kΩ – Throttle valve fully open: 11 kΩ. Throttle position sensor resistance on models with automatic transaxle (see illustration Throttle Body Potentiometer Connector – Models with Automatic Transaxle). Tester connected between terminals "1" and "2": – Throttle valve closed: circuit closed – Throttle valve open: circuit open. Injector resistance: 10 – 14 Ω. Auxiliary air valve resistance: 10 Ω. Cold start idle-up solenoid valve: – With 12 V applied to the solenoid valve terminals, the solenoid valve should click, indicating correct operation. Air flow control valve resistance: 70 – 80 Ω. Knock sensor (see illustration Knock Sensor Connector): Tester connected between terminal "A" and vehicle ground. Sensor must conduct current. Power steering pressure switch: When turning the steering wheel, the switch closes the circuit. Steering wheel stationary, the switch opens the circuit. Coolant temperature sensor resistance: At coolant temperature of 20 °C: 2.1 – 2.9 kΩ – At 50 °C: 0.68 – 1.0 kΩ – At 80 °C: 0.30 – 0.33 kΩ. WARNING: All resistance values given are approximate. Consult a specialist before concluding that any component is faulty.
Recommended Fuel: Models without catalytic converter ("non-catalyst" models): Unleaded 95 RON or leaded 97 RON. Models with catalytic converter ("catalyst" models): Unleaded 95 RON only. Leaded fuel containing tetraethyl lead is prohibited.
